Collision near Grand Bend claims the life of Dashwood senior

A two-vehicle collision north of Grand Bend claimed the life of an 85-year-old man.

Huron County OPP said it happened last Thursday around 5 p.m. on Bluewater Veteran's Highway, Highway 21, just south of the Zurich-Hensall Road.

Police said the driver of a passenger vehicle was pulling out of a private drive when it crossed into the path of an oncoming transport truck travelling at highway speed.

The driver of the car, 85-year-old Joseph O'Brien of Dashwood, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the transport was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The highway had to be closed for several hours while police investigated and the truck's load of corn was cleaned up.
