Huron and Area Search and Rescue make presentation to local council

The commander for the Huron and Area Search and Rescue team made a presentation to North Perth Council this week.

Adam Seltzer said the goal was to provide more notice that his team exists and what they are, which is a volunteer-based search and rescue group.

"Now that means that we've been trained and certified by an oversight body called the Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association, in professional search and rescue techniques," he said.

Seltzer said his team operates in Huron, Perth, South Bruce and Wellington. He added they asked council to possibly consider them in the 2020 budget to help possibly purchase better equipment, and that they are looking for new volunteers, or donations to help new volunteers. He said there is an easy way interested donors can help.

"Any individual in the community, or business or industry, that wants to offer financial support in a specific and meaningful way, can take part in the Sponsor a Searcher program, which is a one-time donation," he said.

The Sponsor a Searcher program entirely outfits a new searcher and covers the costs of them becoming certified. You can visit HASAR.ca for more information.
