Owl Prowl this weekend near Exeter

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is hosting its annual Owl Prowl this Saturday night.

Educator Denise Iszczuk said the event has grown in popularity every year and they've added a third walk for families with youngsters in strollers. That tour starts at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday evening.

The two tours for older kids and adults start at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Morrison Dam near Exeter.

"The two sections include a short talk on owls, looking at the habitat that owls need and the types of owls that are found around here and then we're gonna have half that group stay inside with Conservation Halton and they will be bringing some live owls," said Iszczuk.

Iszczuk said the other half of the group will head outside to try and call in some owls.

"We're hoping to call in the Eastern Screech Owl and we have been successful in the past," said Iszczuk. "We try to avoid calling in the Great Horned Owl, or the larger types of owls because they'll scare away the smaller owls."

Admission is by donation, with proceeds going towards the purchase of equipment for the conservation authority's education department.  Iszczuk also asked that people bring their own mug for refreshments.
