MVCA looking to partner with local municipalities to maintain conservation area

North Perth are investigating a possible agreement with the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority regarding the Galbraith Conservation Area.

The agreement would potentially see the MVCA sell the property, which lies on the border of North Perth and Perth East, to the municipalities. North Perth Interim Manager of Recreation, Amy Gangl, says the municipalities wouldn't outright buy the land, they'd lease it, but right now Perth East doesn't seem interested.

"Perth East Council had defeated those recommendations from staff to be able to go ahead with that lease agreement. But by all means, Perth East, we are very confident that they will be willing partners."

North Perth Council would like staff to now look into the possible agreement and what it might entail, and see if other neighbouring municipalities would be interested in a joint lease agreement for Galbraith Conservation Area. Gangl says the goal is to maintain a very unique property in the area.

"This is one of our very unique natural assets, and so we talk about asset management which is a very key term these days, so let's talk about our natural asset management and how can we actually be responsible and maintain these conservation areas."
