Violence Prevention Grey Bruce wants to inspire young people to start conversations about healthy relationships.
The organization is hosting an Art for Change contest that runs until January 17 to inspire young people to create art about healthy and unhealthy relationships.
To help youth with their entry, a free video workshop for teens is being held on January 11 in Owen Sound to introduce video recording and editing on iPads. Pre-registration is required, and gas cards are available for out of town participants.
Registration for the 12 available spots is on a first-come basis and can be done by emailing coordinator@violencepreventiongreybruce.com with the subject line "Video Workshop".
“We’re hoping the contest will inspire young people to start conversations about healthy relationships and we’ll be sharing their art online to spread their messages further,” said Jon Farmer, coordinator of Violence Prevention Grey Bruce.
The workshop on January 11 is one of three workshops made possible by support from the Community Foundation Grey Bruce, Farmer explained.
"We know that not everyone has access to the tools they would need to create a video and we want to make sure there are no barriers to participating in this contest," Farmer added.
The contest for students in Grades 7 to 12 will feature visual art and graphic design. Students in Grades 9-12 can also create 60-second videos to submit.
All submissions will be shown at an awards event on February 13 and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three submissions in each category.
