Wellington County Council has adopted its 2020 budget which will increase the county portion of property taxes by 3.3 per cent.
Warden Kelly Linton said expenditures are directly aligned with the Strategic Action Plan and provide a financial plan and framework for the County’s top priorities. He added the county will focus core services for all residents while making important investments in infrastructure, waste collection, health care, transportation and social services.
The highlights of the budget include: changing curbside collection to include weekly organics and recycling collection; the first full year of the Ride Well county-wide public transit service; more resources for Wellington Terrace Long Term Care home and investment in roads capital infrastructure and facilities over the next 10 years.
The budget also allocates $6.3 million this year for the replacement of the Badley Bridge in Elora, $3.3 million for work on Wellington Road 46 though Puslinch, and the development of a transportation master plan.
"The county vests over $200 million annually providing exceptional services and programmes to its residents," said Councillor Chris White, Chair of the County's Administration, Finance and Human Resources Committee, in a news release. "The county also has a responsible and sustainable financial plan which helps ensure that we maintain our enviable AA+ credit rating."
