The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance wants to redevelop the Avon Crest property.
It's across from the hospital in Stratford.
The goal is to develop facilities and space that will contribute to the health and well being of Stratford and surrounding communities for decades to come.
“We also have a number of other buildings on the property, special services unit that houses outpatient mental health, an old cottage that is used for temporary accommodation, we have an apartment block, so a number of different places, but the vast majority from a building point of view, is the original Stratford General Hospital,” said Andrew Williams, CEO of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance.
The process has begun with the release of a Request for Solutions that aims to identify qualified groups interested in partnering with the HPHA to develop the property in a manner that both respects the heritage significance of the original hospital and brings significant value to the health and wellness system supporting the population.
“We have kept the documentation fairly open-ended, but we're very clear that we want development that contributes to the overall health and well-being of the region, so we'll have to make sure that whatever we end up proposing meets all of the appropriate requirements, locally,” added Williams.
