The Township of North Huron released its new three-year strategic plan this week.
The plan lays out the town's vision, mission and values and then identifies specific goals and actions under six different categories: economy, community, governance and modernization, infrastructure, services, and environment.
"We wanted a plan that we could actually use and get things done," said Reeve Bernie Bailey. "Not some pie-in-the-sky idea that was never going to get done so we really focused on what could we really do in three years."
Some of the more noticeable projects identified as action items in the plan include replacing the standpipe in Wingham and facilitating the development of the Hutton Heights property.
"We're looking at ways that we can build buildings out there that are affordable homes for people," Bailey said. "This is very important to us and we're going to move forward on that one."
The plan also identifies the need for a fleet replacement schedule.
"One of the things we do want to do financially is set up a plan where we're putting money aside to replace vehicles and fix buildings rather than wait until they are completely deteriorated and it costs us a small fortune on the tax bill that year," said Bailey.
It also calls for the municipality reducing its carbon footprint, look at updating the townships digital processes to include things like online payments and evaluating the current size of council.
