Communities walk together for hungry, homeless

Fundraisers in Exeter and Goderich that raised money for the hungry and homeless are still seeing donations come in.

The Coldest Night of the Year fundraisers were held Saturday night.

South Huron Mayor George Finch said the walk-in Exeter exceeded both the number of walkers dollars raised.

“The last number I heard was $40,000. When you consider the fact their goal was $30,000, that was pretty impressive and that number is expected to grow as more money comes in. And the number of walkers they anticipated was a hundred and they ended up with around 274 walkers," said Finch.

Finch says the participation in the Walk says a lot about the community they live in.

“Quite impressive to see how the South Huron community and area community came together and just supported this initiative, to raise that amount of money, well over their target, and have that many people, well over their target again, to show up and participate in this, tells us very clearly, this is a very passionate community we live in,” added Finch.

The Coldest Night of the Year in Goderich raised over $43,000.
