The first ship of the season arrived at the Parrish and Heimbecker elevator in Goderich on Tuesday.
The Algoma Sault delivered 29,000 tonnes of western wheat from Thunder Bay to be unloaded at the two elevators in Goderich and shipped to various mills throughout Ontario.
The first ship to come into Goderich usually marks the arrival of spring, but Goderich Port Management Corporation President Rowland Howe said because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the top hat ceremony that has been a custom since the 1930s was not observed on Tuesday.
Howe said the Algoma Sault and its crew will be welcomed in a more traditional way on a future visit.
