Arrest made after human remains found

One person has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a 25-year-old Meaford man after human remains were discovered by police.

The Ontario Provincial Police announced Thursday that the canine unit discovered human remains at an undisclosed location. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the identity of the remains, as well as the cause of death.

Police said the remains were discovered as officers were investigating the disappearance of Emerson Sprung who was last seen leaving his family home while riding a bicycle on Trowbridge Street West at around 9 p.m. on Saturday.  On Tuesday, police said the Grey County OPP Crime Unit had begun a criminal investigation into man’s disappearance.

While no information about the person has been released at this time, police said an arrest has been made in connection with the investigation and they are being held in custody.

The investigation is ongoing and police said more information with be released as it becomes available.
