Communities preparing for beach and washroom openings

Communities along the Lake Huron shoreline continue to prepare to open beaches and public washrooms.

Saugeen Shores is one of those communities. The Port Elgin Main Beach will open on Friday along with the BMTS downtown washroom and at the Southampton Town Hall.

Other public washrooms, including the Chamber of Commerce washroom, will open June 19.

Services at town amenities will increase on a weekly basis as seasonal staff are gradually added.

Beaches will remain open while physical distancing practices and other public health and provincial orders are adhered to.

“COVID-19 continues to be a real threat in our community and beyond,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “Not following public health directives and provincial orders risks closure of our beaches.”

The public can expect announcements on other amenities in the coming weeks.
