Municipalities begin issuing burn bans due to intense heat

Updated 4:40 p.m.

Fire bans are in place throughout parts of the region.

Huron County and Perth County fire officials declared an open air fire ban county wide on Tuesday.

Open air fires are defined as any fire outside of a building, including campfires, burn barrels, fireworks or any other fires set in open air.

In Huron County, campfires for the purpose of cooking are permitted from noon to midnight. That is also the case in Perth County, except for North Perth where a total ban is in place.

The ban is being imposed due to the extreme dryness of all vegetation in the area and is in effect until further notice.

With seasonal crops being harvested, farmers are encouraged to use extreme caution when operating equipment as field fires can quickly overtake equipment or neighbouring crops and spread to adjacent woodlands.

Counties, municipalities and towns that have confirmed a burn ban so far include:

-Huron County

-Perth County

-Georgian Bluffs
