Local school board offering free mental health phone line for students

The Avon Maitland District School Board is offering a free mental health phone line for students this summer.

The new service will be managed and staffed by the Avon Maitland Mental Health and Well-being Team and will be available Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. all summer. Students and parents can access the service by calling 226-378-8931.

Students will have access to mental health supports through the phone service, and can also seek referrals to other mental health professionals and services.

AMDSB Superintendent Jodie Baker said, “the Ministry of Education realized that summer support was needed for students who struggled or were disadvantaged by online learning".

She adds with additional funding, they have tried to establish a number of supports for students and their families.
