A Saugeen Shores police officer was assaulted after attempting to arrest a man with an outstanding warrant on Sunday afternoon.
The pair of officers were initially sent to investigate a male who was passed out on a park bench in Southampton. When officers attempted to wake the man, they observed that he was under the influence of drugs and immediately placed him under arrest.
A pat-down search revealed the man had been carrying several baggies containing 31.3 grams of suspected purple fentanyl, loaded needles with suspected fentanyl, two knives, 14 bottles of methadone, and other drug-related paraphernalia. During the struggle of trying to restrain the man, one officer was assaulted and sustained an injury.
A 34-year-old male has been charged with two counts of Possession, two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Assault with intent to resist arrest, Breach Probation, and Breach Release Order.
The man was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
