Police arrest and charge suspect following brazen robbery

The Saugeen Shores Police Service has arrested and charged a suspect following a recent robbery in Port Elgin.

On August 18 at 8:45 a.m., a man entered a convenience store in Port Elgin and told the employee working that they intended to steal numerous items, while concealing the items in full view.

The suspect then threatened the employee when they attempted to confront them. The man then fled on foot and was pursued briefly by the employee. Officers arrived and watched a recorded video of the incident.

Later that same day at 1:35 p.m., an officer from the Criminal Investigations and Drug Unit observed a man who fit the description of the suspect near a residence on Bricker Street in Port Elgin.

Uniformed officers arrived and placed a 23-year-old Owen Sound man under arrest, but while in custody, the accused allegedly threatened harm to an officer.

The is suspect is now charged with robbery, uttering threats to cause bodily harm, and failing to comply with a probation order. The accused will be held in custody pending the outcome of a bail hearing.
