Owen Sound police are saying there no concern for public safety after identifying a man who approached a four-year-old in Harrison Park.
The Owen Sound Police Service said the mother of the young girl saw a man approach her child and put his hands out as if he was going to pick her up. The mother stopped the man who then climbed up a ladder to one of the slides, slid down, and walked away.
On Monday, police asked the public to come forward with any information about the incident, as they were unsure of the man's intentions.
However, later in the day on Monday, a family member of the man contacted police believing their adult son to be the person involved in the incident. This individual, who matched the description, has been diagnosed with developmental and intellectual disabilities, police said.
Police have since confirmed that the man had attended Harrison park with his family on the date of the incident.
"The police believe this to be an isolated incident and the Owen Sound police have no public safety concerns as a result," the police service said in a news release.
