Bear spotted near Goderich

Goderich residents may want to learn more about what to do if they encounter a bear.

Huron County OPP said a 250-pound black bear was spotted just after noon today south of Dechert Road wandering in a cornfield.

In June a black bear was spotted north of Goderich on the Goderich to Auburn Rail Trail (GART).

If you see a bear, slowly back away and wait for it to leave.

If the bear does not leave, throw objects, wave your arms and make noise with a whistle or air horn.

The Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry and OPP said if a bear poses an immediate threat to your safety or is acting aggressively, you should call 911.
