Bayfield ward Councillor Bill Whetstone says he was very pleased by the participation by residents in a virtual meeting last week on the Bayfield Main Street Revitalization project.
Whetstone said about 30 people registered to speak and they also got a lot of input by email.
There were three issues that generated the most discussion.
“The sidewalks, what the texture, what the materials should be, was one of the ideas. Whether we should be burying the hydro wires so we'd be hydro wire-free. Another one was lighting. Those are the three items that really stand out when you come into any village, from a heritage perspective," said Whetstone. “We've only got a certain amount of money that we've been able to allocate and that was one of the things. We can move forward without burying the hydro wires and we have enough money set aside to do the entire project. If we decide to bury the hydro wires, you're probably a $600,000 difference.”
Whetstone said curbs were another issue, with people asking that the amount of visible cement be as little as possible.
There will be more public meetings before final decisions are made.
