The province's police watchdog is investigating after a man was shot to death during a confrontation with police in the Town of Collingwood.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit said officers with the Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP detachment responded to a report of a barricaded man at a residence on Third Street near Beech Street.
As police attempted to set up a perimeter, a 29-year-old man exited the home carrying a firearm. Following an interaction with the man, one of the officers fired a Taser device at him. However, when this did not subdue the man, the same officer discharged his firearm.
The man was taken to hospital with at least one gunshot wound where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is expected to be conducted in Toronto on Thursday.
