Arrests made in Port Elgin crosswalk vandalism

Two teens are now facing charges in connection to the damage caused to the rainbow crosswalk in Port Elgin.

On August 29, police began investigating "burn-out" marks left by cars on the crosswalk on Gustavus Street near Saugeen District Senior School. The damage had been done August 26 and police considered it a hate-motivated crime.

Two young men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000. The 19-year-old was also charged with stunt driving.

There have been other incidents of mischief to the crosswalk and police are looking for the public's help in identifying those responsible.
