Police recover stolen car after suspect flees from police

Owen Sound Police Service have made an arrest following a chase involving a stolen vehicle.

On October 10th just after 8 a.m., officers were notified by an upper east side resident that his 2018 Volkswagen Golf had been stolen from his property. Police located the stolen car a short time later, and attempted to stop and investigate the driver of the car in a nearby motel parking lot.

Once the driver saw the police emergency lights, they immediately fled at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued the vehicle, with the driver failing to stop. The unlicensed driver continued to 9th Avenue East where he failed to stop for a red light and fled southbound out of the city.

The 44-year-old suspect from Toronto was later found in the downtown core just before 11:30 p.m. on October 10th, and was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant. The male was charged with Possession of Property obtained by Crime over $5000.00, Flight from Peace Officer, Drive While Prohibited and three offences under the Highway Traffic Act. The accused made his first court appearance on October 11th, was remanded into custody and will make his next court appearance on October 13th.

The stolen vehicle was recovered at a rest stop along Highway 10, just north of Berkeley.
