Firefighters out of Port Elgin and Southampton battled a fire for close to five hours on Wednesday afternoon.
Saugeen Shores Fire was called to a report of smoke on near the intersection of Elgin Street and Bricker Street around 1 p.m.
Around 30 firefighters fought the blaze for most of the afternoon before finally getting it under control.
There are no reports of injuries.
Faulty heating equipment has been determined to be the cause.
Damage is estimated at $400-thousand dollars and the house is considered a total loss.
