Huron County retailers make a wish

Huron County's Economic Development team has come up with a Christmas project that will bring back memories for a lot of people.

Project Coordinator Rick Sickinger says they were looking for a way to encourage Huron County residents to do Christmas shopping locally.

A suggestion from Laura Connolly of the Exeter BIA was to create a Huron County Wish Book similar to the old Sears Wish Book.

“It's universal in its appeal. Everybody, sort of, remembers the old Sears Wish Book and had fond, nostalgic memories about receiving that catalogue and flipping through it and being excited about what you could ask for Christmas for that year,” said Sickinger.

Sickinger pointed out the idea has universal appeal and BIA's from across Huron County submitted fifteen items that could be purchased from one of fifteen stores in their town.

He says the goal was to really promote the idea that someone could get that specific item from this retailer in Huron County.

“So we really wanted to promote, you can get this very specific item from this retailer in Huron County. For example, Exeter BIA sent us 15 different items from retailers in Exeter. Blyth BIA has done the same and so has Goderich," added Sickinger.

The Huron County Wish Book is a digital experience and there are thoughts of expanding it next season.

The Huron County Wish Book can be found on the Ontario's West Coast website.
