Getting broadband service to every home in the county was something the past Warden of Huron County would have liked to see done.
Jim Ginn says he's a little disappointed that it didn't happen but points out progress has been made.
"I think we're a lot further down the road now. From the SWIFT initiative, we have a seven-million dollar subsidy coming to Huron County to subsidize the installation of broadband in places where it doesn't make a business case for internet providers to provide that service," said Ginn.
"Then we'll have to analyze it and decide which bids we accept and we'll certainly try to get the biggest bang for the buck, so the number of premises served, the number of kilometres of cable that are laid are two of the criteria."
Ginn also says Requests For Proposals for that work are out now and responses should be back within the next couple of weeks. Ginn concedes that still won't reach everyone in the county and says the Western Wardens are lobbying the Federal and Provincial funding for a second SWIFT project so they can reach more homes.
