Mild weather followed by a quick cold snap for Christmas

Mild weather through Wednesday is expected to be followed up by a quick freeze Christmas Eve and snow through the holidays.

That's prompted Environment Canada to release a special weather statement.

Forecasters describe a low pressure system lifting northward Thursday and any rain is expected to change to snow. But that snow may mix with ice pellets or freezing rain for at time through the day Thursday or Thursday night. By Christmas Day on Friday, snow may become heavy at times.

Snowfall accumulations could range between 5 and 15 cm Christmas Eve through Christmas Day.

The special weather statement covers Huron, Perth, Bruce, Grey and Wellington along with most of southern Ontario.

The high Wednesday is expected to reach 8 degrees and then fall through Thursday to minus 3.  It will become much colder Christmas Eve, dropping to minus 9 with the highs below freezing on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
