A South Bruce OPP report says a resident of Arran-Elderslie lost $13,000 to a scam artist. The scammer called as a representative of a computer company and "fixed a major computer issue". The scam was successful in that $13,000 was sent to a con artist.
South Bruce OPP were called on December 19th. A police release warns modern, tech-savvy scammers have the ability to create very convincing scams. They won't hesitate to use the name of a legitimate company in an effort to gain their victim's trust and money. It says people need to always be cautious with unsolicited email, phone calls, letters, and even visitors at the door
