Police have now charged one person in connection with the death of a 25-year-old Meaford man after his remains were discovered by police last week.
The Ontario Provincial Police said on Monday that 34-year-old Matthew McQuarrie of Meaford has been arrested and charged with first degree murder in the death of Emerson Sprung.
Sprung was last seen leaving his family home while riding a bicycle on Trowbridge Street West at around 9 p.m. on May 2. He was reported missing the following day and police began a criminal investigation on May 5.
Police said human remains that were discovered by the OPP Canine Unit on May 6 have been identified as Sprung. Investigators have since ruled the death a homicide.
McQuarrie has been remanded in custody and will appear in court on Thursday.
