Goderich Mayor optimistic about 2021

The Mayor of Goderich says he's very optimistic about the new year.

John Grace says residents are looking forward to gaining access to a COVID-19 vaccine, but there is even more on the horizon for 2021.

Grace says he's excited about the residential development going on in Goderich and throughout Huron County.

However, Grace notes some concerns about the housing situations.

He says many of these development are more expensive homes, and he feels communities also have to include more affordable options.

"The communities also need to look at attainable housing and I think that's one of the first things that Goderich council is going to look at. How do we move the attainable housing projects forward," said Grace.

And while there is currently a market for higher end housing, Grace says it won't last long.

"The higher end housing, from my point of view, can't continue at the pace it is going right now without going back and bringing attainable housing along with it," added Grace.

And he says there is some urgency because the county desperately needs to attract new people to fill the number of vacant jobs, but that won't happen if those people don't have anywhere to live.
