Goderich to look at recreation needs

Goderich council has made a decision to develop a recreational review committee.

Mayor John Grace says the committee will review its overall recreational strategy to take a look at what they have and what the community needs and wants for recreation moving forward.

“What council has decided to do is develop a recreational review committee to review recreation overall, to review what we have, what does the community need and want for recreation moving forward,” said Grace. “The second question will be what do we have in our inventory today. And the third question is what model of recreation delivery do we want, do we want a municipal, do we want a YMCA, do we want a combination.”

Grace says they will then assess what they currently have in their inventory to meet those needs and then try to determine what recreation delivery model they feel would be most effective in meeting the needs of the community, a municipal model, or the YMCA or a combination of both.

Grace says the committee will consist of himself, as well as two councillors, the Chair of the Maitland Recreation Board and five members of the community.
