The provincial government is providing Wellington County OPP with funding to help combat human trafficking.
In a release on January 27th, Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece announced the province is giving the OPP in Wellington County $160,240 over two years to respond to human trafficking and sexual violence, and to support the victims of those crimes. The provincial government is providing over 2.8 million dollars through the Community Safety and Policing Grant to police services province wide over the next two years to provide police with additional tools and resources to keep communities safe and stop human trafficking.
This funding is in addition to the 195 million Ontario is providing through the Community Safety and Policing Grant over the next three years, as well as the 112 million dollars committed to the Guns, Gangs and Violence Reduction Strategy.
“We must put a stop to human trafficking,” says Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece. “I want to thank Wellington County OPP for their leadership in this area, and I am very pleased the province is supporting their work.”
“Gun and gang violence and other serious crimes are not limited to large urban centres,” says Solicitor General Sylvia Jones. “Smaller and rural communities across the province are also impacted.
“That is why our government continues to provide police services with the tools and resources they need to fight and prevent crime and hold criminals accountable,” adds Jones.
