ONE CARE Home & Community Support Services is continuing to provide needed local services during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A not-for-profit organization that focuses on providing services to support over 8,000 vulnerable seniors and their caregivers, ONE CARE continues to serve residents in Huron and Perth counties during COVID-19's second wave. In a release on February 11th, ONE CARE notes that services provided include Meals on Wheels and Grocery Delivery, to ensure seniors are able to get food they may otherwise be unable to retrieve themselves. The Home Care and Easyride Transportation are still being run with "increased infection control procedures." Exercise and Wellness programs and Adult Day programs have been moved online.
As ONE CARE continues to support local seniors and caregivers, the pandemic has increased cost pressures on the organization. ONE CARE is currently running the Gift of Care donation program, which asks individuals to make financial donations to support clients in need if they can. “The people we support are struggling with isolation, being alone and ongoing health issues. They have fears and worries about the pandemic and they need us more than ever,” says ONE CARE Executive Director, Kathy Scanlon.
“Our clients are experiencing significant isolation and deterioration in their health and wellbeing, and their caregivers are overstretched and feeling overwhelmed. We are continually working to make modifications so that we can continue to support our most vulnerable seniors,” Scanlon adds.
“The need for support and care continues as people continue to struggle from the impact of COVID-19,” says Scanlon. “The community support we have received has made a tremendous difference and impacted the lives of many seniors and we are grateful for the dedication to ONE CARE.”
