Local municipalities participating in Destination Recovery Plans series

Six Huron County municipalities are participating in a series of Destination Recovery Plans in a program led by Roger Brooks International.

Funding for the project is being provided by Community Futures Huron and the project is being coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce,

The participants are Goderich Tourism and Community Development, Central Huron Community Improvement, Huron East Economic Development, Zurich and Area Chamber of Commerce, Blyth BIA, and County of Huron Economic Development.

The Recovery Assessment Program, led by Roger Brooks has completed more than 2,000 community assessments over the last 40 years. Central Huron Community Improvement Coordinator, Angela Smith says before they visit a community they review any prior studies that community has conducted to make sure that any work that has already done is included in their report and they're not duplicating something that has already been done.

"They're going to look over the municipality, review the assets that they have and make suggestions for how to improve our community and be more welcoming and open to guests and create things that visitors might want to come and see," says Smith.

Smith adds they'll then analyze each municipality.

"They will be analyzing the entire municipality, all of our assets, our natural tourism assets, our heritage destinations. They'll be looking at it all, with the idea that we promote what we have and enhance what we already have."

The program will begin this year, as soon as COVID-19 and any related travel restrictions allow. Smith says she's hoping to get a report by early summer.
