Zoning changes approved for residential development in Goderich

Huron County council has approved a few zoning changes to allow a residential development at the bottom of South Street in Goderich to proceed.

Goderich Mayor, John Grace, says the project now has all of the necessary permits and approvals and is ready to proceed. Grace says the zoning changes for the property near Suncoast Drive, were around allowing some medium-density residences. He says some of the development has moved towards multi-density homes.

"Some of the development has moved towards multi-residential development. Part of it will stay with single home on a single lot, but a portion of it has changed multi-resident uses."

Grace says there was some resistance from some people regarding medium-density homes but he adds more homes are needed in the area.

"When you look at it, Goderich and across Huron County need housing, from affordable to attainable, to the middle class to the upper class, but Goderich itself, welcomes this additional housing."

Grace says he expects construction will start as soon as weather permits.
