United Way has another successful fundraising campaign in Huron-Perth

The Executive Director of the Perth Huron United Way says this year's campaign has been another success story and a testament to the generosity of the community.

Ryan Erb says the campaign just officially crossed the finish line and they're very excited that they met 100 percent of their goal. Erb says their goal was an increase of 6% year over year.

"Our goal was up by six per cent, year over year, so we were aiming for $1,744,000 and we did that and some more, so we're going to save the celebration for a little bit later and let everybody know how much we raised, but it's been pretty amazing to see the generosity of the community."

Erb adds, it's unfortunate that it takes a pandemic to do it sometimes, but he believes the pandemic definitely made people more sensitive to the struggles of others. He says a lot of people faced tremendous challenges and people really recognized that when someone close to them struggled.

"I think so many more people faced a difficult time and they could see it when someone close to them was struggling in some shape or form and we also saw that COVID-19 was exacerbating some of the other issues. I think people are just more aware because it was in the news more often and, as a result, we have seen incredible generosity."

Erb says they will officially celebrate this year's campaign shortly and announce the total amount raised at that event.
