Huron County moves to address housing concerns

Huron County council has approved a plan to convert two, single detached units on Bennett Street in Goderich into two triplexes.

Homelessness Program Supervisor Erin Schooley says the plan will take the two units that were detached and turn them into as many as six units.

She says it is an opportunity to help address the lack of affordable housing in Goderich.

“It will basically take two units that were single detached units and turn them into, now, up to six units. So two will remain with our community housing unit, and then four will become affordable housing units, so it's a great opportunity,” said Schooley.

Schooley also says the planning department has been sensitive to the concerns of some people that multi-unit housing doesn't fit in their neighbourhood.

So they're designing the project so they do while providing much needed housing.
