COVID-19 cases rise in Midwestern Ontario

The Grey Bruce Health unit added four new cases of COVID-19 Monday, 2 in Meaford; 1 in Hanover; and 1 in West Grey. There are 22 active cases. One resident is currently hospitalized with the virus. 

Huron Perth Public Health added 15 new cases over the weekend. Four in North Perth, three in Bluewater, two in South Huron, two in Central Huron, and one each in Goderich, Huron East, North Huron, and Perth East. There are 44 active cases. Two residents are currently hospitalized with the virus. 

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health added 26 new cases over the weekend, including 15 in Wellington County. There are 35 active cases in Wellington. Three residents are currently hospitalized with the virus.

Ontario logged 627 new cases of COVID-19 today, and one more virus-related death. The number of daily new cases is up from 552 last Monday and 480 the Monday before that.

Of the new cases, Health Minister Christine Elliott says 286 are in fully vaccinated people and the rest are either not fully vaccinated or their vaccination status is unknown. Provincial data shows that there are 133 people reported to be in I-C-U due to the virus, but not all hospitals share that information over the weekend.
