Municipality successful in establishing partnership with My Main Street program

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula has announced a partnership that will help revitalize downtown Wiarton.

In a release from the Township, it's been announced that Wiarton businesses will participate in the My Main Street Local Business Accelerator program. The federal government established the program through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. An announced 23.25 million dollars was made available, to be distributed by the Canadian Urban Institute and the Economic Developers Council of Ontario in the My Main Street program.

The release states the "two-year program to support the recovery and revitalization of main streets and local businesses in southern Ontario through two program streams."

"Council understands the combined impact COVID-19 and the Berford Street infrastructure replacement and streetscape beautification project has had on downtown Wiarton,” says Mayor Janice Jackson. "This program will provide the tools to assist businesses with recovery efforts."

"Council recently approved a new five-year Economic Development Strategy. Strategic Priority 1 is to support local business and accelerate COVID-19 business recovery, My Main Street does just that," adds Danielle Edwards, Manager of Economic Development and Communications.
