Owen Sound approves new apartment building

The City of Owen Sound Building Division has issued a permit for construction of a new five level, 79-unit apartment building at 530 28th Street West.

Developer Barry’s Construction is undertaking the $17 million project that will see 79 new rental units, including 12 accessible units. The building will include one, two and three bedroom suites at differing price points. The preliminary completion timeline is summer 2023.

One of Council’s strategic priorities is “A City that Grows,” which is a commitment to growth-readiness through appropriate public policy, the availability of land and housing, and having the infrastructure to support the growth. Since 2020 the City has issued permits for 298 new residential units including single detached, rental townhomes and apartments.

"With these 79 units coming, and many more in the planning pipeline, growth is trending in a positive direction. Good growth is planned and strategic, and we’re committed to attracting the housing and industry the community needs,” said Mayor Ian Boddy.
