Millions of dollars are being poured into infrastructure projects in municipalities across the province.
Federal and provincial officials announced millions in funding for 144 projects on Thursday, most dealing with renewing and maintaining water systems.
$190.2 million is coming from the federal government, $108.5 million from the province and the recipient municipalities will cover the rest of their respective projects.
14 of those projects are in the local area.
That includes the 7th Avenue water tower in Hanover, the Moorefield Water System Renewal in Mapleton, and the construction of the Teeswater Potable Water Storage and Well.
All three projects are close the $5 million mark with the three levels of governments splitting the cost.
There are 11 other projects across Huron, Perth, Bruce, Grey and and north Wellington that involve millions of dollars.
Grey County:
Town of Hanover: Replacement of 7th Avenue Water Tower The project scope includes the replacement of the 7th Avenue water tower including the demolition of the existing water tower, excavation of the site and construction of the new water tower. This project will increase the safety and durability of water storage infrastructure. Federal - $2,000,000, Provincial - $1,666,500, Municipal - $1,333,500
City of Owen Sound Owen Sound Water Treatment Plant Filtration System The removal and replacement of all filter media and underdrain, the installation of an upgraded air scour system, and mechanical and electrical upgrades for four filters in the City of Owen Sound will improve the filter systems and increase the reliability and efficiency of the water treatment plant. Township of Southgate Rehabilitation of Victoria Street Watermain* The project includes the replacement and installation of approximately 2,040 metres of watermain, fire hydrants, watermain valves, and the rehabilitation of the Dundalk D3 well and reservoir to manage discharge into the distribution system. This project will improve local water pipes and increase access to potable water. Federal - $1,995,200, Provincial - $1,662,500, Municipal - $1,330,300
Municipality of Grey Highlands Markdale Community Centre Water Assets Upgrade The project scope includes the replacement of approximately 150 metres of iron pipes with 200 mm, 6” PVC pipes, an existing hydrant with a new reservoir, an existing tap with a new water filling station. Once complete, the project will increase accessibility to potable drinking water, and upgrade the sanitation system to mitigate cross contamination risks. Township of Mapleton Moorefield Water System Renewal* Funding will support the rehabilitation of the drinking water system at the water treatment plant including various upgrades, replacements and installations to improve water treatment facilities, improve access to potable water and increase efficiency of water treatment infrastructure. Township of Wellington North Mount Forest Standpipe Rehabilitation The removal of interior and exterior paint as well as re-coating of the Mount Forest standpipe will increase the safety and durability of the water storage infrastructure. Bruce County:
Municipality of South Bruce Construction of the Teeswater Potable Water Storage and Well Funding will support the construction of a new potable water storage facility and installation of a new groundwater well and treatment equipment to improve water assets. Township of Huron-Kinloss Lucknow Standpipe Replacement Funding will support the replacement of the Lucknow Standpipe including the demolition of the existing standpipe, the construction of a new elevated water storage facility and the replacement of approximately 255 metres of watermain. Once complete, this project will improve access to potable water and increase the safety and durability of water storage infrastructure. Town of South Bruce Peninsula Gould Street and Pengally Avenue Watermain Replacement Replacement of more than 1.3 kilometres of watermain on Gould Street and the looping connection on Pengally Avenue. The project will include 90 service connections, renewal of nine fire hydrants and 24 gate valves. These improvements will increase the reliability and capacity of the local watermain infrastructure. Municipality of Kincardine Andrew Malcolm Drive Watermain Replacement The replacement of a section of the watermain along Andrew Malcolm Drive in the Municipality of Kincardine will increase the reliability and capacity of the transmission infrastructure. Municipality of Arran-Elderslie Hamilton Street Watermain Replacement This project involves the replacement of approximately 450 metres of watermain from John Street to the end of Hamilton Street. Municipality of Bluewater Hensall Water Tower Replacement Funding will support the replacement of the elevated water storage facility, the installation of about 30 metres of watermain, and the decommissioning of the existing facility and underground reservoir. Municipality of Central Huron Isaac Street Watermain Rehabilitation and Improvements Replacement of approximately 434 metres of watermain including approximately seven inoperable valves, and four fire hydrants. Municipality of West Perth Mitchell Drinking Water Treatment/Distribution Center Improvements The project scope involves the replacement of an emergency generator, the construction of a concrete pad, and the repositioning of the main electrical supply. Work also includes the renewal of a motor control center, two high lift pumps, the motor and frequency drives of the high lift pumps and the internal plumbing and valves.
