Huron County warden encouraged by talk of housing

Huron County Warden Glen McNeil says he's encouraged about a couple of items in the recent federal budget aimed at housing.

McNeil says he's particularly encouraged by the commitment to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation of over $4 billion over five years.

He says any announcement aimed at encouraging the building of more homes, and more affordable homes, will eventually filter down.

“There has been a recognition that anything that can be done to streamline the processes is very beneficial. And when senior levels of government recognize that and legislate the changes to make it happen, it is always positive,” said McNeil.

Huron County has been aware of a lack of affordable housing for a number of years.

In February, the county released "Report to the Community on Homelessness" in an effort to address multiple issues including housing instability.
