Services reopen at hospitals in Walkerton & Chesley following reductions due to staffing last year

The South Bruce Grey Health Centre has reopened services at the Walkerton and Chesley hospitals.

A staff shortage forced a reduction of services to be implemented in December of last year, which saw hours at the Walkerton Emergency Department cut in half, while the inpatient unit in Chesley was converted to a 20-bed Alternate Level of Care.

Now, the Board of Directors for the health centre has returned Walkerton to 24-hour emergency service, and the site in Chesley will return to eight acute care beds, and ten senior's centre of care beds.

SBGHC says "the stability of staffing will be monitored over the next five weeks, and we will then finalize and confirm the date of re-opening of the emergency department in Chesley", though the date of June 15th, 2022 is listed on the South Bruce Grey Health Centre's website as the current target date.
