Two fires keep South Bruce Peninsula firefighters busy

South Bruce Peninsula firefighters were called to two fires Monday.

Chief Tim Wilson said in a news release Tuesday that a lit barbecue near flammable material was the cause of the fire on Spry Lake Road which heavily damaged a home, possibly destroying it.

Crews from the Sauble Beach and Wiarton stations remained at the site along with Paramedics and OPP officers until about 2 a.m. Tuesday.

The South Bruce Peninsula department also responded to a garage fire on Bruce Road 10 near Alvanley Monday afternoon.

Wilson said fire crews were able to protect the main residence from flames, but a two-car detached garage, a car and a small shed were destroyed.

Wilson said the cause of the fire not suspicious, but is so far undetermined.
