Huron East approves contract to renovate community centre in Brussels

Huron East council has passed a motion Tuesday night to proceed with the renovations to the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre, awarding the contract to Elgin Contracting and Restoration.

Elgin Contracting was the only company to submit a bid on the project, but their submission was over a revised budget.

Elgin Contracting was able to lower its bid and council approved the total project at $7,263,000 plus HST.

Earlier on Tuesday, the volunteer leaders heading up the Inspiring Our Future capital campaign in support of the renovation of the BMG Community Centre announced they collectively pledged $340,000 to the project.

Team members say they have been working together for over five years to make a newly renovated, modern community centre a reality.

Over the next few weeks, the fundraising efforts will continue for the 'Inspiring Our Future' campaign and anyone interested in learning more about the initiative and how to support the community centre project can get in touch with any member of the fundraising team including chari Brian TenPas at 519-492-0214 or Campaign Coordinator Roxane Nicholson at 519-357-6292.

According to documents from Huron East in Tuesday night's agenda package, the fundraising campaign, as of May 31, 2022, reached $1,630,000 in donations and pledges.
