Huron man charged after assault at hospital emergency room

A Huron County man faces a long list of charges after a frightening incident at a local hospital emergency room.

Huron County OPP were called about 6:25 p.m. Monday evening to investigate a report of a suspect assaulting a security officer and screener at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital.

A suspect is accused of forcing his way past the security guard, then threatening several staff members while carrying a weapon.

The suspect left before officers arrived, but police soon tracked down the suspect at his home. Police says a suspect resisted arrest and assaulted one of the arresting officers causing a minor injury to the officer.

63-year-old David Heldson from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is in custody facing a number of charges:

-Resist Peace Officer -Criminal Harassment - 2 counts -Uttering Threats - 7 counts -Assault - 2 counts -Assault with a Weapon - 5 counts -Assault a Peace Officer -Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon -Break & Enter Commit Indicatable Offence -Mischief Under $5,000 -Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose - 4 counts -Carrying a Concealed Weapon - 2 counts

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 25, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
