Bruce County housing offers support after incident at Lucknow building

Bruce County Housing Corporation says residents are safely back in their homes following a temporary evacuation of an apartment building in Lucknow.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, October 16,  a safety concern was reported at a building operated by Bruce County Housing Corporation.

South Bruce OPP, local Huron-Kinloss firefighters, and the Bruce County Housing Facilities team have safely concluded their response, which required immediate evacuation of the building. There have been no reported injuries.

A man had barricaded himself inside a unit and police were able to contain the suspect to that unit. With help from the OPP Emergency Response Team, the suspect was apprehended around 5:15 p.m.

Residents received notice that they could safely re-occupy their units late on Sunday evening. Tenants, family members, and supports can contact 1-800-265-3022 to inquire about further information.

Bruce County thanked the OPP, the Municipality of Huron-Kinloss, the Lucknow Fire Department, Bruce County Paramedics, and the Bruce County Facilities Team for their evacuation and relief efforts for those on the scene.

Staff from Bruce County’s Housing Facilities and Housing Services team will continue working on building remediation and serving tenants’ immediate needs.
