Bruce-Grey Catholic board to close schools Friday

The Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board says its elementary and secondary schools will close Friday if there is no deal between the province and the union representing education support workers.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) says its members, which include educational assistants, custodians, office staff, librarians, and other support staff, plan to walk off the job Friday if they don't get a new contract from the province.

The BGCDSB says before and after school programs will also be closed, although the Brockton Child Care and Wooden Hill Child Care centres will remain open.

"While we remain hopeful that the ongoing negotiations this week will be successful and a strike can be averted, we have encouraged families to make alternate child care arrangements for Friday, November 4, 2022," the board said in a statement released Wednesday.
