The province's Special Investigations Unit cleared Owen Sound Police officers of any criminal wrongdoing in the overdose of a man in custody back in July.
In his ruling released Tuesday, Director Joseph Martino explained the 41-year-old man was arrested in the early morning hours of July 6th on outstanding warrants.
The man was brought to Owen Sound Police Service Headquarters. Following a bail hearing, he was placed in a cell where he was eventually observed being under the influence of drugs.
Officers called an ambulance to take the man to hospital where he was treated with Narcan and admitted to the ICU.
Tuesday's statement said the director was not reasonably satisfied the searches by Owen Sound Police "transgressed the limits of care prescribed by criminal law, leaving no basis for preceding with criminal charges."
