Vandalized lights at multiple railway crossings a "major hazard," according to police

Perth County OPP are searching for the person or people responsible for damaging the flashing red lights at various railway crossings throughout Perth East.

Police say they received reports on Wednesday morning regarding vandalized lights at a number of train crossings in the area of Forest Road as well as Road 108.

Malfunctioning lights at a railway crossing "could cause a major hazard to motorists or worse a [fatality]," police warned.

Officers also issued a general reminder that being on train tracks is considered trespassing, and is fineable under both the Trespass to Property Act and the Railway Safety Act.

The investigation is ongoing, and at this time, police aren't sure if there is one suspect or more involved.

Perth County OPP asks anyone with information that could assist in their investigation to call 1-888-310-1122, or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
