Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance and Revera constructing new long-term care home

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance and Revera are working together on the creation of a new, expanded long term care home on the Stratford General Hospital property.

HPHA C.E.O Andrew Williams says discussions have been underway for some time and it will still be a long time before the new home is completed, but they felt now was the appropriate time to make the announcement. Revera currently has a long term care home located just west of Sebringville

“It's a 90-bed home and they've been approved for an additional 38 licensed beds so the development here will be a 128-bed long term care home,” he says.

Williams says the new home will be on the property where Avon Crest, the original hospital is currently located.

“We're going through a process now to have that building removed and that's a whole other parallel process that requires conversation. But we feel we're far enough along on all of those issues to bring this particular project to light,” he said.

The new home will require more staff than Revera has now but Williams says, from their experience, if you have new facilities and you have new technology that's a tremendous check mark in the recruitment box.

“So from that perspective, I think this investment will certainly put them in a good position on the recruitment front,” he said.

Having said that, Williams adds, recruitment is still very competitive and will be for the foreseeable future.

To make way for the new long-term care home, Avon Crest will be demolished.
